ESCAPE AT HOME/VIRTUAL
We are enjoying it, but are finding a lot of the puzzles to be very vague in terms of what we need for the answer. Is it a word? A number? Even just adding a question to guide players in a general direction would be very helpful.
This is great feedback- I know that in making this book, we were unsure of what kind of experience people would want (to be told what to look for in a traditional puzzle book sense, or to keep the doors open to interpretation). We found that the latter created a more successful feeling amongst test groups. But in future books, we'll be sure to add a little more clarity. I'll go through the forum and add more under hints for this book based on this feedback. Hopefully that helps! Thank you Heather!
I am definitely enjoying the book, but I feel like there needs to a better way to get hints. An idea I had, though I don’t know how executable it would be, would be if each question was maybe worth a set amount of Galleons, then each answer page could maybe have 2 or 3 hints on the bottom that you have to “buy” to open. I feel like people feel a bit embarrassed to ask for help, or embarassed to ask for help too often because it‘s a public forum. And I know you’re definitely busy, but it’s a little frustrating waiting a few days for a response, you start to lose the immersion and flow.
This is incredibly helpful to know Cassandra. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll be going through the forum to "seed" hints and curb the need to ask for a clue. In the initial phases, we often need more people to start discussions, but you raise a very good point. Bare with us for just a touch longer, and hopefully I'll be able to get pre set clues up for each puzzle that should help!
The Galleons idea is a great idea! from an executable standpoint, we may have missed the boat, but we may look into doing that for a future book!
